After high school I plan to attend Wichita State University and major in Physical Education. Since my sophomore year, I’ve worked for our school’s summer REAL Program (Recreational, Educational, Activities, Learning). At this program, I provided physical activities for children. I lead the games, like a physical education teacher. Physical education has always been my favorite class. The REAL program helped me determine the career direction I wanted to go. Along with that job, my love for sports and competition has given me the desire to be a coach. This summer, I had the opportunity to teach softball pitching lessons. Seeing their success as they improved, drives me even more in this direction. Eventually, I plan to obtain my masters in School Counseling. I love the idea of planning schedules and helping students achieve their goals for after high school. I believe that my high school experiences and choices have prepared me for a successful college career.
From my schoolwork, activities, and jobs, I know that I will be ready for this next chapter of my life. My love for school, sports, and kids will continue to grow as I pursue my passion in education. |

The highlight of my high school career was qualifying by essay, to attend the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership camp (HOBY). At this camp I found my people. From the local seminar I attended World HOBY. This allowed me to meet other leaders from all fifty states and fifteen different countries.
HOBY helped me become the person I am today; It gave me the confidence to become a better leader at my school. From the beginning I wanted to go back and be on staff for our local Kansas seminar. When I applied the first year I wasn't selected. I was heart-broken. I reapplied this past year and was selected on staff. I am excited to give the same amazing experience to the new crop of Kansas sophomores. From HOBY I learned the importance of service. This year I received the Presidential Service Award for 155.5 community service hours in one year. One of my projects was hosting my own blood drive, for the American Red Cross. I have very competitive spirit, and so it was my goal to make this a big drive. That's exactly what happened. So many people came that the Red Cross ran out of bags. The Red Cross called me a few days later and asked how I made it happen. It was the biggest blood drive in the history of Caldwell. |

In Caldwell you don't have to try out for the team, you just show up with your shoes. It didn't mean I always got to play, but I was on the team. The class ahead of mine had a large number of varsity players since their freshman year. It made me work even harder to earn playing time. I love being a part of a team. The friendships that develop when you share a common goal are like no other. |

My mom was forty-three when I was born. I have two older sisters, but they were already grown, so I was an only child of sorts. Both of my parents own their own business and I grew up on a farm. Watching them run their businesses taught me a good work ethic. Family is very important to me. I love being a role-model for my nieces and nephews. My parents are my best friends. I am so thankful for my relationship with them. |
